許梓桑先生為日治時代基隆地區頗具名望之台灣人，曾擔任基隆街庄長、基隆區長、基隆街助役、基隆街協議會員、臺北州州協議會員、慶安宮與城隍廟管理人。晚年鼓吹詩學，為臺北瀛社中堅，大同吟詩名譽會長。 其原宅第因明治40年(1907年)實施基隆市區改正計畫劃為築港地之故，於明治42年(1909年)遷居於「新店街八十六番地」，翌年邀集瀛社社友等士紳至新居落成式共襄盛舉。直至晚年，昭和五年(1931年)於玉田里山腰處建一「慶餘堂」三合院建築，即為此古厝。 建築配置形式屬閩南三合院形式，分為基座量體(第一、二層)及上部三合院建築量體(第三層)，採日本時代的TR磚所砌築，本建築地處山坡迎風面，因風化侵蝕建物多損毀，尤以牆面為甚，現今保存狀況不佳，且屋面已不存在，極待維護保存。
